Like a maker space, the FWD Makespace Lab is a space for creating, collaborating, learning, and sharing in a low-risk, nonjudgmental environment.

In addition to getting hands-on with our high-quality, on-site tools and technology, such as Laser cutter, VR/design software and 3D printing facilities, you can benefit from the expertise of our Entrepreneur in Residence, who will provide free mentoring and advice to help turn your ideas into reality.

Who is it for?

• Individuals with an idea for a new product which could be the basis of a future business.
• New businesses starting on the journey of developing a physical product.
• Established businesses looking to:
– develop a prototype of a new product
– solve a specific challenge with the use of tech
– incorporate technology to improve current processes or products.

You can be developing products across any sector, including sustainability, creative & digital and health.

• Workstation PC and software for 3D design and simulation
• Raspberry Pi and Arduino demo kits
• Traditional work bench and tools

Eligibility

Fully funded places on the programme can be awarded to businesses that: are either currently based or have a part of a supply chain in the West of England which includes Bath, North and North East Somerset, Bristol, and South Gloucestershire; have identified or would like to find potential partners/networks in the area; want to explore business opportunities to collaborate, do research or develop new products in partnership with companies in the area; or are actively considering working and accessing opportunities in the area, including those that are interested in potentially relocating their operation (or some of it).

Pablo Montero-Cowell
Entrepreneur in Residence

Pablo has over 20 years of experience in hardware R&D, both in large businesses and start-ups.

Having worked across many different industry sectors, he has a unique ability and first-hand experience of taking ideas from concept to market and how to make actionable steps to prove out new products/technologies.

He also founded and ran his own hardware start-up, using limited resources to bring a mass-market consumer product to an international customer base. He understands the potential funding routes, as well as go-to-market strategies in the physical product space and the day-to-day reality of running a physical product business.
