FWD provides a programme that helps people from all backgrounds to develop skills needed to secure high-quality jobs. That includes students, people who want to update their capabilities after an absence from work, be that maternity leave or due to illness, and those currently in a role who are looking to progress their careers.

Digital
Interested in learning about digital technologies, digital marketing and social media channels? Take the opportunity to design and build a website, learn the principles of effective digital communication and how to use the tools available.
Curious about the sustainable built environment, innovative practices and how energy efficiencies are being achieved? Learn how to use digital design, drawing software and understand how new retrofitting techniques are used within the cons
If you work or want to work in the health and social care sector then this course can provide valuable insights, further develop your knowledge and introduce you to effective team leadership and management techniques.
Want to start and manage your own business? Gain the skills you need to develop your idea, identify a unique selling point, understand your target audience and discover the best marketing techniques for a launch.
You’ll choose one or two courses to complete from across our four themes so you can tailor your training to match your own desired career progression. Each course consists of three weeks of in-person teaching and two weeks of project work provided by an employer.
Connecting Learners with Employers

FWD is working closely with a broad range of local employers. As you develop new skills and knowledge, you’ll be matched up with a business who is providing a project, creating an opportunity to get to know them and understand their market and customer base.
Mentoring support

Learners have access to additional support through our network of locally based mentors. You can work together to develop a plan on how to best utilise your new skills and to identify what kind of role might be best suited to your interests, capability and knowledge.
FWD courses are free and have been designed for people who may have difficulty accessing training courses. Combining online and in-person sessions together with short modules over 3-6 weeks, allows learners to fit in their course around existing commitments.

As a learner enrolled on a FWD course, you will tailor your course content based on your needs. In addition, you’ll receive personalised career mentoring throughout the duration of the programme and have the option of attending a series of networking events and skills-based sessions.

How much time commitment is FWD?

We have designed FWD so participants can get the most out of the skills we are offering, without having to have a huge time commitment to the course, this programme is designed to be as accessible as possible. Each Module consists of 3 teaching days and 2 career/networking sessions that take place on an evening. You do not have to complete both modules, you can complete one or both! The employer project can be worked on in your own time.

What does the employer involvement look like?

Involving local employers in the FWD programme is one of the driving forces. Creating connections between local businesses and our participants is a fundamental part of delivery. Throughout FWD, we have employers who will come into teaching sessions and networking events. At the end of the FWD course, all participants have the opportunity to complete a project lead by local business and gain feedback.
